Dr Steven Stern appears in the AAT on federal tax matters and in VCAT on state tax matters. Dr Stern also has experience in appearing before the superior courts in litigation generally.

In addition to appearing as counsel, Dr Stern’s taxation practice evolves around providing advice to, or drafting proposed court orders for, instructing solicitors in relation to existing or anticipated litigation in respect of tax matters, such as: the settlement of family provision disputes; the preparation of submissions; and the identification and assessment of evidence for disputes with the Australian Taxation Office and the State Revenue Office.

Dr Stern does not provide advice direct to the general public, nor does he provide tax minimisation planning. Dr Stern is a long-standing member of the Victorian Technical Committee of the Tax Institute, and is a member of the Australasian Tax Teachers’ Association.
