Emma is an expert in state taxes. She provides specialist advice in stamp duty, land tax and payroll tax. This includes practical and strategic advice in respect of ruling requests, investigations, objections and litigation.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Emma worked at the State Revenue Office, Victoria. She was a lawyer in the Legal Services Branch. She also has experience working in the Landholder Acquisitions Branch and the Technical Advice and Review Branch of the SRO. During this time, Emma developed expertise in state taxes.
She has a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne, majoring in tax law. Emma has taught state taxes at the Leo Cussen Institute. She read with Michael Flynn QC.
Emma is a co-author of Duties Legislation Victoria, a commentary on stamp duty law in Victoria, which will be published by Thomson Reuters in 2018. She is also the updating author of the ‘Partnerships, Revenue Law’ and ‘Superannuation Funds and Other Special Entities, Revenue Law’ subtitles in The Laws of Australia, Thomson Reuters.
Emma speaks German and provides advice to German businesses in Australia. She can also organise for specialist advice to be provided by German law firms.
