Lachlan is a specialist in taxation and revenue, with a particular focus on tax integrity frameworks and cross-border matters.
Before coming to the Bar, Lachlan worked in the Commonwealth Treasury portfolio and was the legal adviser to the Federal Treasurer of Australia. He oversaw the development and introduction of significant Commonwealth taxation reforms.
Prior to that Lachlan was a Managing Solicitor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he practised in taxation litigation and advised on some of Australia’s largest and most complex taxation matters. This includes international investment structuring, financial services tax matters, M&A transactions and individual tax matters.
Lachlan has represented clients in both pre-litigation and litigation disputes with the Australian Taxation Office, and acted for the Commissioner. He has experience with matters in the Federal Court, Supreme Court and Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
Lachlan has experience across a broad ambit of taxation law, including Taxation of Financial Arrangements, thin capitalization, Controlled Foreign Company rules, Debt/Equity rules, Capital Gains Tax, transfer pricing and loss utilization rules.
He graduated with a Masters with Distinction from the University of Oxford, and Bachelors in Laws and Engineering from the University of Melbourne.
